My New Black Alpaca Socks!
You may recall that Dad got a big bag of alpaca fiber in February when I took him to an alpaca ranch as his much-desired birthday treat.
He has spun the fiber into yarn and knit himself several pairs of socks. This fall I came in one day and declared that my feet were cold in my boots and I needed a pair of alpaca socks too. I reminded Dad there were two months yet till Christmas.
Well, it was the right word at the right time. He went to his bedroom and got his black alpaca yarn and sat down to knit me a pair of socks. He got them done this week, so yesterday I tried them on when I went to the post office. They are so thick it was a little crowded in those boots for my feet, but hey, it didn’t take long to get used to them!
Since Dad doesn’t wrap gifts or stand on formality - I believe I can start using them.
When I got home I decided that I need not bother to put on my white ones again. I kept on my black alpacas, and didn’t take them off until bedtime. This morning, I only reached for my new alpaca socks!
I wonder what I’ll wear when I want to wash them.
Last week we got a new great-grandson (for Dad) and great-nephew (for me). Deacon Wade Friesen was born to Trevor and Joanne Friesen in the lower mainland of B.C. Yes, I’m waiting to hear too, how they came up Deacon as a first name.
A great-aunt should make a gift, so Saturday I started on a small Teddy bear, using a pattern I’ve used many times before when making baby gifts.
I’m up to the stage where I must put in the cotter pins and washers for movable joints.
Ten minutes here, 15 minutes there, and so on - I might have it done by next week’s RoseBouquet. Watch this spot.
