Halloween is Over; Winter’s Begun

There’s snow on the ground this morning. We’ve all been grateful that it has stayed away this long. Seems folks around here all appreciate an extended fall, much as we know winter has it’s positives too.

Two nights ago we had about 43 Halloween trick or treaters at the door. I gave out caramels and children’s tracts, however, I had only 10 caramels left at the end.

Back from Beautiful Alberta

Yes, we DID have a wonderful weekend away, thank you! Cloudless skies for the
most part, and beautiful Indian summer weather and scenery. It was delightful
to get to know Margaret (my Grandpa Friesen’s cousin) and her daughter Kathleen
and her husband Doug at Medicine Hat. Kathleen and I kept discovering more ways
in which we are alike.

We’re Off to Make New Friends!

Dad and I are getting our inner motors revved up about going away this coming
weekend. We’re invited to a 40th wedding anniversary in Lethbridge, Alberta,
for my second cousin, Wayne and Hilda Kroeker. It has taken us long enough to
decide whether we can afford the gas, (at least 7 hours each way), and whether
we can risk the possibility of a snow storm. Here in the prairies that can
happen any day now.

Our Thanksgiving Weekend

We’re rather pleased with how our Thanksgiving weekend turned out. Sharon, a
niece that we seldom hear from, came from Calgary to spend a few days with us
before the weekend. She wanted a quite place to fast and pray. However, I got in
some precious little chats with her, and was thrilled to see how she has

We’re Into the Water Cure

When Jalise came about four weeks back, she brought with her some gifts from
her Mom, my younger sister Elsie, who is teaching at the shiny new university
in Qatar. Elsie was back to Canada for a month this summer, but didn’t make it
here to see us, as she’d planned. (In fact, she lost her ticket until just the
last day, so they decided Jalise could come in her place).

Besides a lovely necklace of true salt-water pearls, not cultured, Elsie had
sent a book for me called, “The Body’s Many Cries for Water,”

Education Week vs. Holidays

I was describing my mis-adventures with the email “sending” feature to my friend Kathy on the phone. I mentioned that I was chalking off these last two weeks as holidays, since I wasn’t getting much work done, just studying and
researching and trying to solve that problem. Originally I was only going to take off the time when my niece and her daughter were here as holidays.

Water in the Potato Pit

Remember our purple potatoes? Well, we had a heavy-duty rain on the weekend,
and when Dad checked his pit in the floor of the storage room on Monday
morning, he found a couple of inches of water!

Purple Potatoes

Dad’s brought in our purple potato crop. It took him two days last week, and yesterday.
He is feeling quite pleased with this year’s potatoes. Last year he only got one 5-gallon pail full,. . .

Just in Time for Joyce

We got back on Sunday evening from a wonderful weekend away to Alberta. (You’ll find my photo story of Kevin and Jena’s wedding in the Ruthes Roses section). I’d meant to drop off my films as we came through Saskatoon, but the Superstore was closed already, so we made another trip into the city (just […]

Off to a Wedding

We’re gearing up for another weekend away. This is the holiday I’ve been waiting for – for months now! My Uncle Henry and Aunt Frieda Kroeker, in Alberta, have raised five fine sons. I feel closer to them than most of my cousins because in our childhood years, they always came back here to our […]
