My Exercise and Strength Building

Which all goes to show that I should work at my exercise and strength building every day through the week, and not just on Saturdays when I throw all my willpower into accomplishing heavy duty physical projects that wipe me out.

Hey, I DO have a health and strength building plan for this new year, but I’m still trying to develop the habit for these things. Others give up on their New Year’s Resolutions as soon as they forget or can’t get time to do what they wanted to do. I’m smart enough to know that I have to allow time for things like my exercise plans to become habits so I no longer have to skip and go on guilt trips. It may take me a month or two yet.

Since no one else is cheering me on from the sidelines, I take courage from small improvements. For instance, one exercise item on my list, is to ride 3 miles on my exercise bike after each meal, or at least twice a day. (If there is snow to shovel I do that as a substitute). Well, a couple of weeks ago it was taking me a bit more than 3 minutes for each mile. But last week I started noticing that I was done about 15 seconds before the timer went off. Yesterday I increased that to 30 seconds. So now I’m keen to see how long before it only takes me 2 minutes per mile. Or 6 minutes in total for one session.

My thighs are feeling stronger, and able to pedal up to 30 mph for about half a minute at a time. What’s more, this morning after my bath I saw that I had lost 3 lbs! Hurrah! Now I want to do more exercising!

The exercise I do on my bed with legs in the air, and elbows touching my knees is suppose to tighten tummy muscles, and it only takes about 2 minutes at most, but… it is rather easy to brush off because “I’m too busy right now.”

I need better motivation.

My walking friend, Rita, is laid up sick and will not be available for the rest of January. When this cold snap breaks tomorrow I may just have to talk myself into walking by myself.

It sure takes willpower and determination to start new good habits, doesn’t it? Are you dealing with this too, right about now?
