Walking with Rita
We seem to be only managing one morning walk per week, instead of the two we wanted to do before we started. However, each time we learn a bit more about each other, and our friendship is growing.
This morning, when Rita called ahead, she asked about marigold seeds. I’ve got lots, so I was able to give her a choice of several large supplement bottles full of seeds.
As we walked we talked about the flowers we were seeing in others’ front yards. At one point we spied what I thought were day lilies but she said they were daffodils. At another place I asked what she thought those white flowers were. Rita thought they were columbines.
I said, “No, I’ve got some growing in my backyard and I’m sure they are columbines.” So… I ended up inviting her home to see them. She was delighted to find I had columbine seeds to spare for her.
Well that led to a tour of my garden, and conversation all the way. Instead of just half an hour, we’d used up an hour. We admired my irises (from Mom’s) that are just blooming now instead of before Easter.
Next week she wants me to come sit in her garden.
So, we’ll see where all this takes us.
P.S. Here are my bargain petunias in pots, ready to flourish – though I am planning to seed other flowers into those pots yet too.
